Ready to begin your pottery journey? This 8-week beginner wheel throwing course is designed to help you build a strong foundation on the wheel. Whether you’re completely new to pottery or looking to improve your basic skills, you’ll learn essential techniques in a relaxed and supportive environment. What You’ll Learn Fundamentals: Centring and basic wheel-throwing techniques Essential forms: Cylinders, bowls, vases, small plates and mugs with handles Trimming & refining: How to shape, balance and finish your pieces Decorating: Add colour and surface decoration to your work Glazing: Learn how to glaze your finished pieces in the final session Your 8-Week Pottery Journey Week 1: Learn how to centre clay on the wheel and pull up the walls to create cylinders. Week 2: Practise and refine cylinder forms. Week 3: Learn how to make bowls. Week 4: Create vases and explore different shapes. Week 5: Make small plates in a variety of forms. Week 6: Learn trimming techniques and how to make and attach handles. Week 7: Finish trimming and decorate your pieces with colour and surface design. Week 8: Glaze your finished pieces. Course Details Duration: 8 weeks Class length: 2 hours per week Cost: $419 per person Firing & Clay Firing for up to 10 pieces is included in the course fee. Additional pieces can be fired for $5 per piece, including both bisque and glaze firing. A maximum of 13 pieces per person can be fired during the course. This limit helps ensure there is enough glazing time and kiln space for everyone’s work. Clay is not included and can be purchased at the studio for $25 per 5 kg. You’ll need to take your clay home with you and bring it back to class each week. What to Bring Wooden board: A flat board, similar to a chopping board, for moving and storing your work Zip-lock bags: To keep your pieces moist between classes, especially during Weeks 1–6 Storage container or box: Large enough to safely carry your work home Apron and towels Short nails: Keeping your nails trimmed will make throwing easier and help you achieve better results Important Notes Safety: If you are pregnant or have any health concerns, please let your tutor know before class. Bookings: Course bookings are non-refundable unless your place can be filled by another participant. Class numbers: Classes may be cancelled if the minimum number of participants is not met. If this happens, you’ll be notified in advance.
