Service Description

For beginners, the hand building techniques is the easiest way to get started with pottery making. Once you have grabbed the skills of hand building, you can enjoy the joy from clay wherever you are. In this 5 weeks, this course you will learn the fundamentals of hand building, a variety of basic building methods such as pinching, coiling, slab building, and a variety of decorative methods such as texturing / embossing, Nerikomi / marbling, underglaze painting, glazing. Tutor of this course is Mido Yu, who has about 12 years of experience in ceramics making. The course will combine some of the techniques she has learned from studying and working in Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital of China. Enabling students to discover their own interests, directions and styles in clay. No previous pottery experience is needed. Clay is not included in your class fee and can be purchased at class. Firing your pieces is also not included in your class fee, usually $15-$30 over the course of the class, depending on how many sizes and how many pieces you make. Please bring pictures or sketches as a reference so that the tutor can guide you to make your work better. Please bring an apron to avoid getting messy. Recommended to cut your nails before class Pottery has many chemicals and materials that are hazardous – so if you are either pregnant or health impaired, you need to let your tutor know so that she can advise you on best practices. Please note that because spaces are limited once you have booked there are no refunds unless we can find someone else to take your spot.
