Service Description

Have you ever wanted to throw bigger bowls, taller forms, or more expressive pieces on the wheel? This intermediate wheel throwing course is designed to help you build confidence and take your throwing to the next level in a relaxed, supportive studio environment. Over four weeks, you’ll work with larger amounts of clay. Each session includes demonstrations, guided making time, and plenty of space to create at your own pace. This course is ideal if you already feel comfortable centering clay and making basic forms, and now want to push a little further working with more clay, pulling taller walls, and improving your overall control and consistency on the wheel. Course plan: • Week 1 — Large bowls • Week 2 — Tall forms and moon-jar inspired pieces • Week 3 — Teapots or lidded forms • Week 4 — Off-the-hump throwing and finishing In this course, you will: • Learn spiral wedging and how to prepare larger amounts of clay • Learn how to centre, open, and pull larger amounts of clay into bigger forms • Improve control, balance, and consistency on the wheel • Explore new shaping and forming techniques • Practice trimming and refining your pieces Most pieces will be trimmed the following week. Glazing is not included in this course. Once your work has been bisque fired, you will glaze your pieces yourself during Open Studio sessions at no additional cost. Clay is not included. All firing (bisque and glaze firing) is included. Glazing is completed during Open Studio sessions. Please note: The course may be rescheduled or cancelled if minimum numbers are not met.
